Customer has six 240v GU10 50W downlights in his kitchen, switched with a 400W dimmer. Two lamps blew this week and took out his dimmer, which I am replacing for him. He mentioned that he is considering replacing the lamps with LEDs for reliability and saving on running costs. Now I am not an expert in lighting, but believe there may be incompatibilities or problems combining LEDs with dimmers, problems being either the dimmer won't work or there will be severely reduced lamp life. As he is a valued customer, and he will be spending a fair wedge (Β£200+) on buying the LEDs, I would like to give him some advice on what LED/Dimmer combination would work best for him. I have found a few websites giving general advice about LEDs, but it is general advice, and quite frankly my head is spinning with trying to absorb the info and come up with a workable solution for him. So can someone give me a specific recommendation of LED lamps (5W, kosnic, etc) and dimmer (type) for this situation?

Thanks Benny Boy, that's just what I was after. Do those Luton dimmers fit on a standard 1 gang 25mm deep backbox, or do they need a different backbox? And do they need a neutral at the switch, because he only has C, L1 and cpc there at the moment?
