Being lazy - suggestions please for low cost "good" LED downlights.

For use in a kitchen and dining room

I completely agree with you - cheap is not always a good idea!

We are fitting some Philips Master 7w dimmable, £30 each but an excellent lamp

I would avoid the lamps where theyve stuch as many low power leds in, some have upto 48 leds!
ive used some 4w phillips which are nearly comparable with a 50w halogen, contained 3 x 1w high power leds with a wide viewing angle and opticle lense to improve the beam. they cost around 5-10£

i personaly think warm white for a house, alot of people buy good lamps but get cool white and the light is harsh and not very good a showing colours!

led technology gets better each day, ive seen a prototype range of t5 tubes which have clever opticles and are actully brighter then flourescents!

I fit halers which is just collingwood really. roughly 35 quid a fitting no bulbs to change and a 7 year guarantee if you register them 50w equivalent. also have an aurora sample which just been given which are very nice feels bit more robust than the halers. i personally dont bother with the bulbs dont forget your loft caps

Are these the 7 watt Halers you use? How do they compare with a standard 50 watt hologen. Looking to complete lighting for a kitchen/diner at the minute and they are willing to go down the route of high quality fittings rather than using standard GU10 fittings and replacing lamps with LEDs.

Also a lot of the retro fit high powered LED lamps are to long for a standard fitting, so stick out the end, which is rubbish!

Have used JCC 7 Watt fire rated LED fittings recently on two jobs, and was impressed by the light output, I`d say brighter than a GU10, no smoke hoods to fit and a 10 year (domestic) guarantee, and about the same price as Halers.
Only concern is non-changeable lamps again.
