So, to the reason I've visited this forum before I start training again next month -

I was in the bathroom last night and I heard a kind of pop sound, similar to when a light bulb blows. It was above and to the left of me. In that vicinity is a downlight, an extractor fan wired to the light switch, and in the ceiling in that spot is the transformer/driver for the lights. The extractor fan was switched off at the time via the isolator above the door.

The bathroom lights are extra low voltage downlights with led mr16 bulbs. There is one transformer, actually it must be an led driver, feeding all 4 downlights. The LEDs are 4 or 5 amp each. I think the led driver is rated somewhere around 20-25 amp. A big metal thing from cef, installed about 3 years ago. I've no idea of the make and cef seem to have no idea what it was when i enquired about another one a few months ago. The lighting circuit is mcb protected but not rcd.

There was a definite pop type sound, and it sounded like it was in the ceiling where the driver is, but the lights continued working, and when I switched on the extractor fan, that also worked.

My washing machine set on fire the day before, so I'm hypersensitive at the moment and concerned about continuing to use the bathroom lights thinking they're ok and then having an overheating/fire issue due to a faulty driver, or maybe having all my led bulbs suddenly blow. So, is it possible for something in the led driver to go pop in someway and the led downlights to continue working? If it wasn't the led driver, I'm at a loss to explain what the sound was.

I know it's not really a training issue, so hope it's ok to ask in this forum. I look forward to participating on a regular basis when I get back into things again in the next month or so.

Thanks for any help

The pop could have been anything. f it was my house I'd climb in the ceiling and visually check everything and see if anything smells like it's burning to start with. You can usually remove the cover of LED drivers as well if you want to make a more thorough inspection.
