This may seem a daft question, but can you replace standard 50w GU10 halogen lamps with GU10 LED lamps? I’ve got a customer who wants the lamps changed in his fire rated down lighters. But during a recent visit to the wholeseller, I was told that I could only use LED down lights with LED lamps for correct heat dissipation.

I can’t see the logic behind this as there is a lot more heat generated from a Halogen GU10 lamp than a LED GU10 lamp. Besides the LED lamps are designed to fit a standard GU10 downlight? :sad3:

lol At CEF it will get noticed due to their policy of just thinking up prices lol
LOL they do don't they. You can go in and buy something at one price, get halfway out the door, realise you need more, then they charge you a different price.

On the plus side, they're open on Saturdays.

i bought some 5watt kosnics from cef last week . best price they could do was ÂŁ10 ea. + VAT.

I think the SMD stuff is more than ok for heat issues, its retrofit as well and can be picked up from CEF for about ÂŁ8 + vat, or from LED hut for less all in delivered. Fitted a load of the high powered LED Aurora A2 4W in fire rated fittings in a hotel about 18+ months ago and as of yet none have failed - they can be on pretty much 24/7 in places.

There is next to no heat in the SMD chip LED's, they are my current preference and have proved to be reliable to date (touch wood).

Have a customer that bought a load of fire rated downlights years ago and when come to put them in we put Phillips LED lamps in them, they don't fit perfectly to the clips but not by a noticeable amount. Dim well too

For new I'd OP for the JCC led downlights. 10 year warranty, push-in connectors, the spring clamps are already installed (what's up with that Halers?) and cheaper too (Just over ÂŁ30 +Vat~)

It depends on the customer a lot I guess, not too many I come across that will pay ÂŁ30+vat+markup for the fitting alone, even with long warranty.
