There are several great led lighting systems available, but very expensive, remote - mood , touch pad, or quantam
No need to mess with dimmiible led's, they are dim to start with, its just boys toys. I would go halogen, then you have total control. Also you have the option of changing lamps later, in a quantum systems you cannot

I've installed 200 led's in a foyer in kensington high street, customer did not like. The effect just did not work, and I agreed....big probs for me, cos now wants to put halogens. So from 300watt lighting circuit,i now have a potential of 10kw...rip out and start again

you can fit energy saver 35w halogen anyhow -7kw total

have you explained the downside of bulb replacement and energy cost to customer:eek:

i normally zone a big area (multiple lighting circuits) whenusing led/cfl - for maintenance and blackout avoidance

I never try to explain the downside to a designer, the designer is only interested in the effect, pure and simple...

I must admit, energy savers do not give the same light...it is totally different, try it.
Put a 35watt halogen, next to a 10watt energy saver. The difference is major.

I must agree with lighting designers on this, although they are a pain in the arse sometimes!

in a nutshell...try low energy, in front of a structure, say a statue...and show in siillouette againsts a background. You cannot do effecively.

Now do the same thing with halogen, the differnce is major.
The actual light projector may be the same output in lm but the effect is completely different

Maybe i shud now say that t is a council house in rotherham and has got to be a single fitting in the middle of the living room and has to be led as these are a goverment trial with solar pannels and all that jaz

That's because the light source is much wider in a CFL than with a halogen or metal halide. Therefore the shadows are diffused.

The extreme opposite effect can be had by using a single Luxeon LED emitter for lighting small objects - the light is effectively a point source and the shadows stunningly distinct.

I played with this a couple of years back before LEDs were mainstream. By bonding single emitters onto big aluminium heatsinks and using them for accent lighting in a funky house in Phuket. Wired in series-parallel and driven by Philips constant-current drivers. Worked a treat.

Unlike the commercially-available 12V MR16 and 230V GU10 LEDs which were expensive and in my opinion useless. There’s no way the light output comes close to halogen, and I found they constantly fail.

I also bonded some blue 3W Luxeon emitters into lengths of aluminium channel, filled the units with clear epoxy and installed in the pool.

Sorry, this is not much use to the OP. If you have to use LEDs then get the very best lamps – those based on Luxeon units. The cheap Far Eastern stuff is a waste of time!
