LED RGB Strip

Hi

A customer has asked for a RGB LED strip that can change between 3 different colours (light green - light blue - lilac) anyone out they used something like this before?

Its to light a window signage box.

If you've never dealt with this type of LED strip lighting it can be a bit of a minefield with so many different types, brightnesses and colour frequencies etc. Problem will be that the customer probably has something very particular in mind that they've seen used to good effect elsewhere so they're likely to be very fussy about the end result. I'd personally get the customer to source and supply their own lighting materials or get them to check out first hand the different options and systems available and specify an exact make and model of their preferred lights so you can supply them.

It's easy enough, all the bits are off the shelf. Check with the customer to find out exactly what it is that they've seen somewhere and get back to us/me.

Thanks for getting back to me. The lighting is for signage similar to the link they are having a box and want LED RGB strips inside except their colours are light green light blue and lilac, I'm bit worried on how the colours will merge together inside the box

Have to say, unless they want to be able to change the colours in use then RGB is a whole world of over-engineering for that. Would be better off using static bright white and some conventional sign acrylics! Anyhow, to do what you've described you'll need 3 separate circuits of RGB which means you'll need three separate controllers. Most RGB strip works with having a conventional LED driver to provide the power and then the individual strips get controlled through an RGB controller downstream of that. For your application you'd need separate control per colour which makes it a bit messy. There are systems to do this, but it's not cheap when you start pushing the envelope.

Yeah its pretty easy to work with, TLC sell a diy kit for £30, the dc transformer is a plug, I normally buy an additional dc transformer as well, when used for under cupboard lights, if you do need to cut and solder the leads back together check polarity of connection's, the +RGB are not always in that colour order, so when you select red you get blue
