I bought 2 x 10 w Led floods off ebay sellers name was IHOME-COME, they came with very short prewired 3 core cables which I decided to replace, when I opened them up I found the earth was not connected to anything as there was nothing to connect to - I have contacted trading standards who are investigating to the best of there abillity as the items are shipped from china via a distribution centre in Portsmouth - For me its an easy fix as it is for most of you,

thing is Ive seen the same fittings being knocked out by a few wholesalers - proceed with caution ! [ElectriciansForums.net] Led spotlights[ElectriciansForums.net] Led spotlights[ElectriciansForums.net] Led spotlights

there is nowhere to connect the earth cable, I would need to drill the casing or find one of those banjo type things that has a spade connector on

got my refund today with a little help from ebay, they want me to change my feedback !, what part of being dangerous dont they understand ? they want me to return the fittings and claim the postage back later ! dont think so !!!
they are amazingly still up for sale, no shame there then

the main point of this thread is to warn that some of the wholesalers and yes I mean the bigger ones as well may be chancing their arm buying off e bay as well, dont automatically think you are buying a quality product

You bought electrical equipment from EBAY from CHINA personaly I my thoughts are buyer beware The advert ddint list a BS number Did you question about this ?
As for Trading standards What are they meant to do ? its outwith their juristiction as there are countries out there who dont have electrical regulations as strict as we do
You obviously bought from Ebay due to cost
As for wholesalers buying from Ebay thats THEIR issue IF you buy from them and discover there is a BS problem then THEY should sort it and T.S. would get involved

The items were bought from a seller in Portsmouth, not China but it transpires they were from China, not really relevant as a lot of the stuff we buy nowadays is manufactured in China

As for trading standards they are very much involved.

ps you need to sort your keyboard out it keeps typing in capitals

It’s just a way of tricking the unwary. You may know that the gear you require should be CE marked but at a quick glance? Damned clever these Orientals. I suppose on e-bay you could quite truthfully say it’s CE marked, it’s just the wrong CE.

Seems that the LED driver is CE marked!! (after blowing the photo up) Actually looks like a pretty solid fitting to me from the photo's posted. I'm just wondering if the manufacturer fitted the gland and wiring, or was it the importer??... None of the locally made fittings on sale that i've seen over here, come with any wiring fitted!!

Most probably will end up placing a 240VAC 30uF capacitor in parallel with the spotlight. I think it will help smooth out the flickering.
