Hi All,

I do a small amount of work wiht ponds. Just to clarify i am not a qualified electrician and do not have any qualifications in that field.

Sometimes I have clients and some of their equipment has stopped working. Am I leglly allowed to open the control box for inspection (i.e. to check fuses)? When I say control boxes I mean like this:

As far as I know it is legal to alter things as long as new wiring is not put in place, so am I allowed to change fuses, check connections/visual inspections?

Also, sometimes I have clients needing a pump changing/installing. This is where they already have one of the control boxes (above). Am I legally allowed to wire the pump into the box, with the wire that is provided as standard with the applicance (pump)? I am not adding any new wiring, except that which comes with the appliance.

I hope this is vaguely understandable. The law is incredibly confusing, I would be grateful to anyone that can help me out here...

Thanks In Advance

Just to clarify something, I havent carried out any work like this yet, but want to check that I am legally allowed to do so before I start.

To add, the control boxes (above) are connected to the mains via a plug, never directly wired to the mains. I dont know whether this makes a difference or not?

as long as you are not making any additions/alterations to the fixed wiring then you have no problems.
