Hi All,
Can anyone please help me on how to identify incoming legs from out going legs on a ring wired in singles
your help will be very much appreciated. Thanks

Best Regards

start from source ie db continuity test will confirm legs from db then its a case of testing from socket to socket may i ask why

I ask this question becos' of cross connection of the incoming live to the out going cpc and vise versal to find my R1+R2 value for the ring as i dont went to cross connect the live to the cpc of the same leg

Do your end to end measurements (r1, rn ,r2) then cross connect your lines and cpcs in connector blocks. Do a test between the 2 connector blocks. Your reading should equal (r1+r2) Ă· 4. If not you've probably got them the wrong way round.

The measurements will be the same.

split the ring , at approx. mid point. connect 1 leg to MCB. go back to where you split. ssee which leg bites. ( don't try this at home, children)

You'll soon know if you've got them wrong anyway as you should be getting the same reading at each socket. If not then they're the wrong way round.

Big Thank You to You all who have contributed to this thread. I appreciated your usefull toughts and suggestions. Thanks

easiest way is to ( with power isolated) spllt ring at any socket. short out l/e of each cable. then at DB, ohm meter l/e. that will give continuity of each leg's l to e. mark them up, reconnect the split, and away you go. repeat for l/n or n/e if you need to.

Hello m8!
Have you got an On site guide or an Guidance Note 3? Step 2 and 3 of continuity of ring final circuit will explain you how to identify incoming and outgoing legs.

Might just be me but the lives should be easy to ID does the OP not mean the N's & E's as they are all in the same bar and in singles, I know my heart sinks when I open up DB and see it,s all singles worse if it,s tri phase
