leokiss

I gotta say this is my pet hate. I know what you are thinking just dont lend em out,but i always end up working with ill equipt people generally an apprentice or mate. I recently bought the knipex 1000v large cutters which are ÂŁ50 before trade discount anyway this lad asks to borrow my tin snips so off he goes with em.

Comes back 2 mins later can i borrow your large cutters. I say yes ok just look after em. He comes back again n says they are rubbish them cant even chop head off an inch n half 8 screw!!!! The cuttin bit looks like i chopped through a live cable!! I could Have killed him what a muppet.

I reckon this will still wind me up in 20 years time:(

Had the exact same problem with a guy who worked for me same knipex cutters as well, I always have doubles of everything in my tool bag for other guys , he managed to blow a hole in them after 20min on the job, he's now learnt because I've never given him another set and he's still stuggling to cut anything smaller than 25mm :D flex is just hilarious. I also use the same rule for screwdrivers pliers etc, I don't mind suppling the best once. I actually have three sets of thoughts cutters the oldest and most battered ones are 6 years old and I do only use them for cutting 3.5mm and 4mm screws to length as they give a really clean cut without damaging the threads, the other pair are in a glass case and only come out for tails and big SWA cores.

foolishly left my toolbox unlocked on production floor, returned to find production operative taking the cherry of my virgin 6" side cutters, on a flippin high tensile steel spring! never even got to use them.
to make matters worse, i dont know how to insult people in polish.

I blew my bosses side cutters 8 months ago and he still doesn't let me forget it. I NEVER usually borrow tools but we were working in a tiny house with about 10 other tradesmen and it was just a struggle to get to my bag, he asked me to cut a wire back and told me he had just turned off the circuit, unknown to him a joiner had just turned it back on (sign was in place but it wasn't locked off) I couldn't be bothered to get my cutters so just picked his up, cut and then literally soiled myself with the massive flash. He was laughing saying you should never take someones word that a circuit is off which was a fair comment, I then held up his side cutters with a large hole in them and he soon stopped laughing.

He says he bought them 15 years ago and will never get a pair like them, they were Kleins and I did look at replacing them but couldn't find a uk supplier so he now has my spare knipex.

Just tell him "Jebiesz jeze"

My old boss used to borrow my tools if he couldnt be bothered to go and get his own. i didnt mind this so much but he broke a few of them and refused to replace them. Being an apprentice at the time I wasnt in a position to replace them that often.

I learnt my lesson years ago lent a few tools to a mate and they came back in such a state had to throw them ALL away, that little lesson cost me about ÂŁ200 and as my old man would say "once bitten twice shy lol"

Never lent anymore tools no more broken ones lol

Call me a mean old bugger but i dont lend out tools anymore i have learned from experience.

I bought a padlock for my tool box :D

Same here. He even stopped bringing his own toolbox to work!

He broke about 4 junior hacksaws on me within the space of a fortnight. Never replaced them either. Then you would have to search his van every night for at least half a dozen tools which had suddenly gone missing. As I said, I bought a padlock.
