Evening All....

Recently started up on my own and just sorting out marketing side of things.

Got most areas covered but last one I'm a bit stuck on.

Want to send out letters to the following:

Estate Agents
Letting Agents
Builders
Conservatory companies
Local businesses
Other trades

Just stating what I'm offering, to give me a try etc.... obviously most of these will already have a sparky they use so got to try and really sell myself.

But not too good at getting the letter together, would anyone out there have a draught that they send out just to me some ideas?

Many Thanks,

Sy

you could mention your up to date qualifications any membership with professional bodies, if you do call out`s or weekends put on. also no job to small? with the estate agents it`s sometimes worth going to introduce yourself the personal touch works better, and also you don`t know if your letter will be just opened and binned within a couple of seconds

As you are just starting get yourself on a small business advisory course they are free just google it for how to make contact. Its around 3 days covers everything from tax to marketing. They also have networking events afterwards where you get to meet the people you want to see face to face so no letters and you know your message is getting across to the people that matter and not as mentioned your letter is binned within two seconds of opening.

To give you an idea I went to one of them just a couple of weeks ago and now I have a holiday lets company on my books work is coming through now and I will be doing a lot of the pat testing and electrical work for the properties they only have about 4 or 5 hundred lets. Two builders, a landord and a guy that does conservatories and that was from one networking event in the next month I have another two to go to.

Best of luck

Chris

Walk dont you use those four letters words with me:D. Serious now its free and even if you do know most of it the course will put you in the right direction.

The networking events tend to be a closed shop as well so if you have not been on the course you dont get the invites, cuts down on the competition and as I said what better than face to face with the very people you are trying to ring, write or walk (its that four letter word again) to.

Thanks for your advice chaps..........picked up so much on here already and have only been registered a few days.

I will be dropping into most places and showing my face and introducing myself, but intially I just wanted to send a brief letter (even if it does get binned) so when I do pay a visit it is something to 'break the ice' as such, and it may jog there memory.

Got a list so far of about 150. I can get these all done and mailed out within a few days, but the follow up visit is going to take me a while !

It was just the actual wording/structure of the letter, I've got a good idea of what I want to put in there.... . If someone has one already drafted up and could post it on here it would be a great help?

Thanks again,

Sy

One template will not do a proper job its a one size fits all attitude. If you are sending out a mailshot you need to tailor each letter to the recepitent and dont go on about how good you are and you do this and you do that otherwise all your letters will be binned and your time and money wasted.

The other thing to do is all the junk mail you get dont bin it start reading it and take phrases etc from these letters to use in your own. Remember these companies are paying thousands to get the perfect mailshot letter and givng it to you FREE thats a word I love.

If I received a letter from you all I would be interested in is whats the benefit for me so that has to be the main part of your letter the benefits then support that will your services ie fully qualifed 7 day coverage no callout charge etc etc.

Good luck

Your right there, I was going to do a template for each specific type of business I was targeting.

And will keep an eye out for the junk mail in future see if can pick any tips up,

Thanks again,

Sy

Very Good Advice for any buisness start

Get onto your local council website and look in the planning application part. Fire off some letters and a business card to the planning applicants, explaining what you do and who you are. You will be surprises at the amount of builders who tell the customers to get their own Sparky, Plumber etc etc. worked for me and i still get repeat business and recommendations 7 years on.

Cheers.........Howard

are the free business courses regional cos i can't seem to find one around my area

or am i being thick which is probably more likely:confused:
