Hello everyone, hope you are all well.

I am looking for some advice, i have recently passed my 2330 level 2 and nvq (think the nvq is just something the college did as no one else seems to know it, its the PEO). Anyway, i have landed quite lucky in getting a job as a mate on a large industrial refurb with work til at least next april. I would like to do the level 3 tech cert and NVQ but i am self employed and the college said last year i wouldnt be able to do the level 3 if self employed. Does anyone know of any way i could do it? Can i pay to do it off my own back? I am going to do the 17th edition at evening school if i can then hopefully eventually become fully qualified. Sorry for the long winded essay lol but i would really like to continue and get qualified.

Thanks

tell them you have a placement, get a letter from the contractors your subbing to saying you'll be working as a mate with them for the next year and they should let you on the course.

Exarmy and brucelee have said all that needs to be said.

Most colleges require that people on the level 3 need to be working in the industry. Please refer to Brucelee and Exarmy and good luck to you.

Thanks for all the helpful replies, i will certainly look into it further and hopefully get on the road to becoming qualified!!! Although i can see its not going to be cheap lol, went to waterstones to get a copy of 7671 today and nearly cried when i saw the price ÂŁ80!!!!! Looks like it will be an ebay job, but i suppose its worth it to get the quals!!! Once again, thanks for the info

you should be able to pick up a copy of bs7671 for around ÂŁ65. make sure you get the new green issue, unless you want the reds one s/h off ebay

I think they mean you cant do the NVQ being self employed, Any 1 can do level 3..
I try and not believe what just 1 college has said to me because they dont seem to all read from the same hymm sheet..
Ask another college Bags and id avoid private training companys as they ll tell you any old BS to get your cash(and large amounts of it)

I spoke to my local college re. the NVQ level 3 and they said, due to the fact that most people in the construction industry are self employed, they will accept applications for the NVQ as long as you have a contractor that you work for the majority of the time. This is only the case for construction related NVQs apparently.
