In the last week we have had these lies told to potential customers

1. TECG sales rep : Kioto panels are the best on the market
customer : Our research shows Sanyo is the best panel
TECG sales rep : Sanyos are not suitable for the British sun !

Customer phones us and we reply " How many suns are there ? "
Nailed and installed yesterday

2. Company from Dorset quoting for exposed sea location project " You have to use Swede solar , they are the only company with a salt mist test and are the best panels made in Europe."
One email to customer with links to twenty companies with salt mist test certificates, followed by an email showing where "Swede" solar is sourced and a list of the top fifty worldwide manufacturers as rated by EupD research centre. No mention of anything Swedish in top fifty.
order received install next week

Why oh why do these people try to mislead their potential customers ?

I think I might know who the second one was:)(not me by the way, but someone I have come across)

One of our customers was told by another company that no panels, other than Sanyo's were suitable for the U.K.!!!

The guy at the end of my street has just paid £10,000 for a 2kWp system!!!, facing almost due west and been told they will have a payback of £8,000 within 5 years.!!!

My partners parents had a phone call asking if they would be interested in solar p.v., they replied 'yes'. The 'assessor' visited and prepared them a quote for 2.5kWp. They paid their deposit. The scaffolders turned up and did their thing. The installers turned up and said 'why are you getting this fitted? what about the 60ft high trees directly across the road in a south direction which cast a shadow over the front of your house for 70% of the day?'.......... they told the company where to go and eventually got their deposit back after many phone calls, many letters and 2 months!

We've had one salesman from a rival local company (obviously with a lot of Sharp 180 to sell) who told a customer that any panel with output higher than 200Wp was just too risky to put on a roof due to risk of burn out.

Another customer was worried about damage to the slates during an install. We explained how we remove the slates one by one, fix the hooks to the rafter then replace the slates and flash around the fitting with Code 3 lead. Not good enough. We lost the job to another company who claimed to be able to fit the hooks to the rafter without moving any slates! I don't see that working, unless Paul Daniels has set up his own solar business.

No doubt it involves drilling through the slate. Always a pity when you lose work to shoddy tradesmen.

TECG sales rep : Sanyos are not suitable for the British sun !

This is a common suggestion. Utter nonsense too.

It comes from the fact that Sanyo panels perform better when they get a little warmer and therefore the cooler British climate isn't really suitable. Of course, it takes very little sunlight to get the panels up to temperature, even in the winter.

A rep from Sanyo told us at the Segen tech. conference last year that if they were installing at the North Pole then they'd probably have a point.

No, they specifically told the customer that there would be no drilling or cutting of any slates. I'll be looking out at Eco Build for any clever mounting solution that can levitate the panels above the roof. :sorcerer:

ballast and a non slip mat:rolleyes4::rolleyes4::rolleyes4:

when someone I had quoted for got a quote from someone else for considerably more they suggested we must be cowboys to be able to beat their quote. happilly the customer suggested it might be the other way round!!

This could go on..........

Lost one job due to us not being able to source a "wireless" inverter as the customer wasn't keen on having their new landing carpet lifted or a external cable. And no I don't mean a monitor either, I do mean AC cable!
