Hi all,

I am trying to replace a light fitting but the wiring is different.

In the photos below you will see the three wires that need to fit the new fitting which has earth, neutral and live terminals.

The only one has one red wire and two black. The two black wires were attached to the same terminal on the old fitting.

I have tried to work it out with a multimeter, but I get 220V between the red and one black and about 80v between literally every other combination so I am struggling to work out which is which.

Please help, rural South Africa so not easy to get an electrician here. We are off the grid solar, if that’s relevant. I’ve heard that’s a thing with neutrals.

Thanks so much

Yes if you read between red and black with a meter and it reads 240vac then you just tape one of them up if not needed and use the other one. Please don’t work on this with your power on.
