'The middle brown wire'?

Are you certain this is not a class II fitting?

The picture is too small to see any detail.

Re: light fitting 1

If the fitting is class 1 and requires an earth then it is not correct to use a brown cable and it also looks as if it is wrapped around the nut.

Re: light fitting 1

yes gonna change that to green yellow cable and is wrapped around the nut, so if theres no earth with the fitting should i just put the lighting earth into connector block and tape up.

Is the fitting new and untampered with? Has it got the double square symbol on it somewhere? If it is class ll/double insulated then it does not need an earth. Then you just connect the cpc of the cable to the middle terminal of the connector block, no need to tape it up. Do not cut the cpc back as a subsequent fitting might need it.

Well if it didn't come with an earth it is almost certainly of a construction that does not require one. You could always google it and check specifications or check with the manufacturer if still unsure.

It's a bit hard to see but is there a piece of metal sticking up just underneath the wires wrapped in heat resistant material towards the lower part of the photo. That could be the earth tag for the fitting and the centre connector block would fit over that tag and provide and earth to the chassis. Looks like a class 1 fitting to me. If it were double insulated there will be a sticker on the fitting itself stating it is.

i would say its class 2 i cant see a earth point all the lghts are plastic fitted in to metal but did you get it from b&q if it has the 2 squares on no earth needed but if not and has a bs number then earth it
