I live in a flat which has a buzzer to let people in. Recently I noticed than when i turned the buzzer to privacy later it would have turned back on gain by itself.

I changed my bathroom light a while back from a "4 pin 16watt 2D fitting" with a smaller style 2 pin 16watt fitting due to the old one stopping working.

I have noticed that when I switch the bathroom light off that the buzzers red privacy light switches off and the buzzer is back on again.

What might be causing this to happen! Any guidance on this would be much appreciated.

Thanks :)

ok just checked the specifications......are you aware that the mute button is timed, so when pressed to mute buzzer, it will automatically switch back on after a preset time. Default setting is 15 minutes

I have lived in the flat for 7 years and have never had any problems with the buzzer. Leaving it switched off for days on end and always stayed off, with the red light on.

I replaced the light in the bathroom a month back roughly and then this problem started happening. I only noticed it was the light doing it the other day. I made sure by resetting the off switch on the buzzer and switching the light again. Every time the light was switched off the buzzer red light turned off.

The light does have a ballast (not electronic).

Thanks :)

Could the collapsing magnetic field in the ballast be causing this when the light is switched off?

To ad I have tried a normal incandescent wired to a pendant temporarily and no problem with the buzzer.

A new light might be the only option, however I am still interested why this is happening all the same.

Thanks for the input Tazz:)

Long shot maybe (no segregation between band I & band II ccts.) maybe the switch wire to the light fitting is running close to the intecom cable? (Doubt its CAT V, probably just 6 core/8 core bell wire with no shielding.)

Is the handset on the outside of the bathroom wall? Or close to the CU unit/CU unit probable cable runs?

Maybe leave the handset off the hook when you want privacy, it should technically do the same job. :)

My guess is an earth to N fault in the damaged light fitting. This will become a problem when other devices draw large currents.
