Hi
I want to power a pendant light from a 13A socket. There is a convenient wooden beam above the dining table to run the cable along, then it can drop down the wall to a wall socket. Am I correct in my understanding that I am not allowed to fix the cable to the beam with cable fasteners but could, for example put hooks on the beam so the cable can be supported in a way which makes it theoretically removable and therefore still "portable" as say an inspection light would be?

Thanks
Andy

There is no reason why you can’t clip the cable to the beam, so I don’t know where you might have heard that it’s not allowed??

Are you proposing running this in flexible cable, just plugged into the socket?
Hi Littlespark

I was told once that sockets had to be for portable equipment so fixing the cable would not be allowed. But if that is wrong I'm glad to hear it.

Yes, I'd use round three core 0.75 with a 3A fuse in the plug.

Thanks!
