just need some advise please. the landlord has finally agreed to a total rewire of in laws house but the contractor is lowering the light socket height to conform with disabled regs but neither are disabled. can they contest this. and what is the minimum/maximum height anyway.
many thanks
john

is the landlord lowering the height for future tenants? rewires arent governed by the building regulation heights (between 450 bottom 1200 top) sounds like hes doing it for future tenants.

On a rewire the heights of the switches and sockets are not bound by the new build regs so its really up to the landlord/sparky to decide.

If the landlord has decided to "move" these items it sounds like he wants the job done correctly!

As mentioned the building regs state that in new builds sockets and switches should be between 450mm and 1200mm from floor level, not just for "disabled" people but for anyone with "restricted reach" which could also include children, elderly people, or short people. In rewires or alterations the original socket & switch heights can be retained, although they can't be any less accessible.
Presumably your landlord is also planning to raise the height of the sockets as well?

What would be your inlaws' grounds to "contest" this?

thanks. they just dont like change i suppose but it was the way the contractor demanded it had to happen which increased the price of the job. i will pass on all the info to the inlaws and the landlord who happens to be a long term friend of the inlaws. may thanks
