Lighting a Mechanics Pit

A friend of mine is a mechanic, he's just about to become an MOT inspector, and is having a pit dug out for MOT inspections. Basically he wants some kind of lighting that he can recess into the pit walls that will light up the car above for inspection.

Any ideas what kind of lighting could be used? something with a good life span as he doesn't want to have to change lamps very often.

Thanks

i'd use a few fluorescent fittings.recess them in to the brickwork and make some clear perspex lenses for them.

As the pit can be a catchment area for any explosive gases which are heavier than air you may need to look at fitting explosive proof fittings within the inspection pit.

Precisely, if you are designing and supplying, be very careful and keep in mind that the pit will probably be used for petrol vehicles as well as diesel despite what the official line is!
