Hello everyone,

I have been asked by a customer to fit fifteen downlights (50W GU10s) throughout his house.

I know the requirements regarding low energy lights and have explained these to him and warned him about the cost of running them.

However, he is adamant that this is what he wants because they 'look good'.

What exactly is my position. Am I forbidden outright to do this or, as it is not a new-build or an alteration to the building, is it down to him?

Thanks,
Geoff

15 GU10's will notexactly increase global warming to the extent of melting the polar ice caps, thus forcing the polar bears to reurn to canada from whence they originally came , and the penguins to melt in their wrappers

What are you taking out? How many watts is he using now compared with the 750w you are putting in. I'm in the same frame of mind as Telectrix, changing the world by changing light fittings will not have an effect in the grand scheme of things. Customer may not be so happy when he has to change his bulbs every two weeks if he buys the supermarket cheap ones.

cows farting methane causes more global warming than all the light bulbs, cars, aeroplanes , power stations etc.etc. put together.

Totally agree.

Few months back I got asked to change pendant 60w hallway light to 3 x 35w energy saving gu10. When told the customer she will be using 105w therefore using more electricity she still said go ahead, they look better and I'm doing my part for the environment? I just gave up and changed it.

There's something else that know one likes to mention. "Energy saving" bulbs produce less heat, so the central heating is on more. Depending on how the central heating is powered this can completely negate the benefits.

my argument exactly. basic law of physics " energy cannot be created or destroyed". what the GU10,s give out in heat is less energy supplied by the heating system

What I can't understand is if energy conservation is such a big issue why are council's and the highways angency not rushing round like blue ****sed fly's changing all the street light's to LED's and installling intelligent lighting in their office's

intelligent lighting in council offices is turning off the lights when there is nobody there. that is far too complicated for councils to grasp. asin schedule below
2.00pm. -- Meeting of all team leaders, discuss and prepare method statement regarding the turning off of office lights.
3.00pm. -- Second meeting convened -- mission statement. delegation of duties, leads to:
4.00pm. -- Risk assessment.- = bugger, it's home time . sod it, leave em on all night.

You forgot the first two or three meetings which were to decide whether they should have a meeting to discuss the subject and who should attend.

the earlier meetings were cancelled as they couldn't find any white heterosexual males in the office to make up a balance
