I've just a customer on the phone that has had all of his electronic equipment fail including his power one 3.6outd due to lightning striking the transformer supplying his home. His insurance company are saying he is not covered as it was caused by a third party, that can't be right can it?

not sure, but I'd be checking the varistors on the inverter, as it could well just be them that needs replacing.

Never knew God was a third party, thought he was the top dog .. (Act of God...)

I guess the insurance company are blaming the DNO for having a transformer in a stupid spot where it could be hit by lightning and are hinting that the owner should claim against them instead of on their policy.

After all, hardly any houses in the UK are connected to this new-fangled "grid" thing are they and those very few that are obviously have surge protection to ensure they are kept safe from lightning strikes that might affect it?

that's actually good if it's protected the inverter, be interested on hear if the inverter still works after a replacement is fitted.
