I've discovered that one of the bedroom lights in our 1930's 3 bed semi have been wired (I guess as a spur) into the upstairs 16A radial circuit. Similarly the light in the porch extension at the front of the house are on the 16A radial too. I know the best solution would be to wire correctly, but what should be done in the interim?? The wiring isn't readily accessible. Many thanks.

Welcome to the forum Pjl4200. I'm assuming you're not an electrician so I've moved this to the DIY sub-forum for you.

If the wiring feeding the light switches is 2.5mm from the 16A radial, then as a temporary measure, you could change the switches for switched, fused connection units and fit 5 or 3A fuses which would protect any smaller cabling along with certain fittings. Realistically, you need to get an electrician to see exactly what your setup is and advise accordingly. Many house fires and deaths have been caused by DIY wiring with inappropriate fusing.

Ad Guitarist as already said a switched fused spur is the minimum requirement, but if it is a 1930 house, the whole installation could be due for a thorough Eicr and could end up being a worthwhile investment.
