GMES

Right guy's it has been a while since our last competition, which was a monster affair thanks to all the Mentors and all the generous prizes involved.

We have had Christmas and new year so I thought it was Time to do another one, I thought we could have a small comp with maybe the trainees posting up a photograph and brief description of their favorite install, it can be a lighting job, a ring final circuit, a disboard install, or anything that you have installed in the workshop at college and photographed.

I would like it to run from now until the end of this month, which should give you all time to get your entries in. Then on the last day of the month I will nominate a Mentor to pick the best one, similar to what Paul has done in the past.

@ Paul.M you know you are getting roped into this lol

And finally the prize you will all be competing for is a copy of the new onsite guide, incorporating amendment #3 2015. I will order the book tomorrow so it is sat waiting for the winner.

One last thing, I don't want any pressure on this comp, it is purely my way of kick starting 2015.
Good luck to all the Trainees who enter.
@Mods/Admin Let me know that this is all acceptable with the forum etc.

More than acceptable GMES and a very generous prize. The forum should have a "Respect button" because I would be hitting it right now.

A few small details to go over with you on the phone mate, call you in an hour. Going to the pub for a staff meeting lol.

No worries mate, just don't start telling me you love me or anything soppy when you're half cut!!!

I'll chuck in a donation for a prize, a Megger tpt 210 voltage indicator.

Haha Paul will love you, I can see exactly what is going to happen here, Mentors are going to start donating prizes and Paul will end up with a mega comp on his hands again.
Very generous though Rob thanks mate.

GMES & Rob you have both started this!....... I'll back up every time Gents.

How about you two get your heads together and think of a question worthy of your prizes! Now that is a hard, trust me.

Paul I take it my question is not suitable, If Rob wants to add a different question or alter mine then that's not a problem for me, or maybe he could start a 2nd competition with his prize to keep things interesting. This would also give the trainees more to think about and also it would make the competitions last longer, if he maybe started his at the beginning of February. Just a thought, either option works for me.
@ Rob let me know which way you want to go with this!!!

Glenn & Rob it is up to you, your running it, I'll just help out in any way I can.

1 comp question with two prizes or 2 comps running at the same time? Whichever gents, your choice.

Dont think it would be wise letting me judge an Install comp due to me knowing a few trainees personally/ forum buddies etc. You may want to ask Tazz, Pete, Tel or Howard (or others) to help out on that matter, an impartial opinion is required on a comp like this to keep it fair.

I'm happy with one comp, and two prizes.

I won't have the time this month to organize anything properly.

Although I would like to add, along with the photo of the install I would like a few words on what you learnt from installing it. Even if it was just a tip or trick of dressing something in, getting something level etc...

1 comp with 2 prizes it is then. I like your idea of the trainees adding a few words, GMES is also thinking of that as well.

I have a board install in college to enter a competition, I've already done it but I should be redoing it this month to try inprove. I'll post up that once it's done

How about posting up the alarm panel and key pad change you are going to do next week? Your workshop board is actually very good by the way. (see you tomorrow and wrap up, it was really bloody cold today).

Does this mean I will have to contribute something of use and actually do something rather than just chatting ****?

I'm sure that over the next 5 weeks you can post up a picture of your work. It really does not matter what it is due to the expansive installs that the trainees are doing, college workshop at Level 2 or an apprentice in his final year. The quality is what matters, not the complexity's of the install.

If I can't get any decent pictures from work I'll post up a pic of my bay at college, it's got the 90° bends I fabricated out of Galv tray and 50mm galv trunking that I was quite chuffed with!

College workshop pics sound great mate. A lot of the members should do the same. You are all at different levels and you all do different type of work, post them up.

Remember the "Ceiling rose" thread??? It's not about quantity, it's about quality of workmanship which is slowly diapering in our trade. Try hard and become the best you can be, the jobs/employment will happen due to your quality and standard of your work, trust me on that one

Just been looking through my old pics on my phone and found my first board change, I've only done 2 more since then like but i think i'll ask my pal if i can start doing them on the rewires we do.

But while i was looking through my phone i found a pic of possibly me best work to date...

I had to climb over one machine then crawl under another one to get a tail stuck on each of my mates, i then made my way back to my machine and got a picture for posterity. They were walking around with them on for at least an hour
