Hello, I am studying to pass the 17th Edition and there is a question that i do not know.

The following final circuit are to be installed using thermoplastic insulated multicore non-armoured cables 3x6A lighting 1x20A UPS supply 3x32A ring 1x40A cooker. If the cables are enclosed in a non-metalic trucking where entering the distribution board, how many live conductors would be enclosed?
A) 9
B) 16
C) 22
D) 32

Three phases=3 + mono phase=1. So 3+1+3+1=8. What am i doing wrong?

Thanks

For a start the question asks for live conductors - not line conductors. Secondly, a ring final circuit has two of each conductor.

Three phases=3 + mono phase=1
Where does that bit of info come from?
There's no mention of 3ph in there, you're over thinking this. Answer what you're asked, not what you think you're being asked.

Also look in the definitions part of bgb for what is defined as a live conductor and you will find your answer!!
Seek and Yee shall find.

Thanks everyone. Now i know how to answer this kind of question.

I was wrong in a lot of things...

Differencies between live conductors and line conductors
How to count in a ring
Neutral is a live conductor
3X & 1X, it's the number of circuits

wow, one picture is better than one thousand words.

Thanks:willy_nilly:

Now you're learning, admitting when you are wrong is the first step to getting things right.

I know it. I am a little baby in this field but step by step I will get being a good worker.

I have more doubts, so in the future I will ask you more questions.

Thanks.

As per above from Dave. Swap to a 63A outlet and problem goes away. What gets plugged into it is not part of an inspection.
