I need to monitor a 3PH supply in an industrial/ commercial premises, to see how much they are pulling Max Demand and generally how the phases are balanced and how much spare capacity there is as they want to add more power.

Would you hire someone in to do this or is there something you can hire/ use without specific training on analysing the data?

i would imagine you can hire a data logger / peak power monitor and do it yourself.
just connect it up at the mains and leave for a week.
return 7 days later , process data , off hire kit.

cant help you with whom can supply the gear tho.

As said above.
Check your local wholesalers, they sometimes hire them out. Expect to pay a couple or few hundred quid for a weekly hire though.
The data is not difficult to interpret so don't worry about that. The one I had dealings with recorded current drawn, voltage, and frequency all displayed on handy line graphs.

Hi resolution data loggers are expensive to buy and they're usually not cheap to hire either. Depending on the granularity of reporting you require try a decent billing meter with built-in logging something like this ZAPλ 3AM+. We have a few of them we use as basic dataloggers and they've saved us a fortune over the years. I'm not sure if these particular units are available in the UK but I'm sure you can track down something similar.

Check out the for sale and wanted forum here, as one of our members is selling a 3 phase power analyser at what looks to me a very good price at ÂŁ600!! Anyway check the unit out and see if it's suitable for your purposes.

Kit like this is always a great thing to own, if you can afford them that is. Otherwise it's all down to hiring!!

Circutor power analyzer and motor controller
Hi Guys,

Still trying to get rid of my power analyzer kit.

It is a Circutor AR5-L and is completely new with all leads, software, and bag etc. I will even throw in a light lux meter and a powerboss solo motor controller.

I have tested all and it works 100% and is ready to go!

I am only selling as we bought a office and some stock from a electrical engineering company that did rail lines etc that went bust and have a load of stock that i am trying to now recoup some of the money we have spent.

I am looking for ÂŁ600 for the whole lot of which is absolute bargain if your into that sort of work.

I can accept paypal etc so its safer for both parties and meet up etc

having problems up loading pics but posted it before I can pm if needed

Give me a ring or text on 07720812709-Mike-based in bristol

Here's an earlier thread relating to the same item...With photo's!!!

Another option would be to get a company who specialise in Mains Analyising, they will install it, remove it and give you a report at the end and invoice too. It would save you having to mess about with new software.

For the sake of ÂŁ600, far better to buy that bit of kit that's on sale. It could pay for itself many times over if the OP is involved in commercial and industrial work. It gives you another lucrative service to offer clients, and maybe any work that results from providing that analysing/monitoring service.... I bet you wouldn't get much change out of ÂŁ400 (if not more) for hiring the services of a specialist company that you're talking about.
