Hi Guys,

We're thinking of offering a new service on our website, and would love to hear any feedback that you may have. Basically, when you bought your new multifunction installation tester, would you have paid £50+VAT, in return for a loan tester, should your tester ever have to be sent away for repair within its manufacturer’s warranty period?

We'd like to offer this service to customers who purchase any new multifunction installation tester from us, and we're also thinking of offering this service (at a reduced rate), to those who have bought this kind of tester from us within the last year.

We can appreciate that as an electrician being stuck without (arguably) the most important item in your van, could have a massive effect on your company's productivity. Hence why we want to offer this service to help you out should this ever happen.

Any feedback would be gratefully appreciated!

I think it's an excellent idea, it could also be expanded a little for working sparks to "test drive" a new tester to make sure they like it before committing to buy. Obviously the mechanics of how it would work would need a bit of attention

That would be a crackin deal and if under warrenty it could possibly get charged back to manufacturer
a loan MFT if sending yours for calibration, out of warrenty work would be an Idea as well with a small charge and PnP only cost me ÂŁ11 to send my old megger back to office insured n tracked including the big jiffy bag

thats the bummer I find about calibration send it off day 1 it arrives with them day 2 work on it day 3 packed sent back day 4 arrives back at house day 5 theres a wek without a tester :(:(

Hi Mogga,
Thank you for your feedback. I'm afraid that we would not be able to include the loan unit during calibrations as well. If the tester would require two calibrations during a 3 year warranty period that would result in the carriage costs for these two deliveries and collections would already cost close to the full ÂŁ50.00. To include that would have to higher the cost for the service. I do however understand that it can be frustrating being without the tester once a year during calibration. I think its difficult for a lot of calibration providers to offer a free loan unit while remaining competitive on their prices.
The above cost will of course all transport costs for all any number of repairs that might be required during the manufacturer's warranty period (ÂŁ50.00 + VAT was based on a 36 months warranty - ÂŁ1.39 + VAT per month).

I for one would willingly pay the carrage of loan tester on top of callibration afterall its a service and being without a tester for some guys would mean possibly knocking back work so a fair return carraige cost plus small hire fee 9 you as a firm couldnt just right off a tester so a hire charge would be appropriate ) so long as I get good service , and dont feel ripped off I would be happy with that I do howevery understand that as a company having one two or theree "loan MFTs would be tying up a fair bit of money it MAY work if trialed for short period

that said Mine is a company MFT and has to go to the companys prefered supplier so no buisnes from me Sorry :(:(

You are completely correct that the Sale of Goods Act states that the consumer shouldn't be out of pocket with regards to faulty goods. This is also why we ensure that all our customers do not every pay for any transportation involved with getting a product back to the manufacturer for a warranty repair.
We cannot be liable for any funds lost as a result of the equipment that we have sold developing a fault, and in such a circumstance it cannot be expected that an equivalent product is sent out free of charge in the meantime. Our responsibility lies with ensuring that our customers are not left with hefty carriage charges back and forth from the manufacturer.

The above insurance is to protect you and your business in a time where your tester developes a fault, not the faulty tester itself.

Appreciate you bringing it up though.

I only have the one MFT ...at the mo but will get another one....or separates maybe....whatever but this should ensure that i wont be without callibrated test instruments as/when i need em.....

That's definitely the way to go if the budget allows :wink5:
none of my test equipment was bought new.......some of it dates back to the mid 90s....but it all works as it should.....its all about choice though innit....i personally wouldn`t dream of buying a new tester but others will always go for new.....so i can see why this service you propose would be of interest......depends how you go about it...as others here have already said...:D
