Currently doing some remidial for a EICR, the person who carried out the report and written up the defects has stated A/C fan units situated outdoors need local isolation switches for maintainence and repair. Whilst carrying out the work i have noticed that the whole A/C units can be seperately isolated, but from on the inside of the buildings (32A rotary isolators). These buildings have coded doors and are obviously only accessible if you know the correct code.

Would it be advisable to still install a rotary isolator on the outside in addition or would the existing isolator be sufficient. Reg No: if possible ?

Thanks in advance

So long as the units can be safely isolated, and that isolation secured (unique padlock etc) then personally I can't see the issue as to where the actual iso is located. Inside is one less thing to have water get in to, as well.

Thanks, the guy whos told me to do it is saying they need to be accessible, so they need to be on the outside next to the unit itself because a code is needed to access the current isolator. But i disagree, all it takes is a knock on the door or to ask a member of staff to let you in. In my view its just a waste of money and time.

I think you may have an issue here between isolation for maintenance and repair - v - emergency shutdown. If it's the latter that's required then he's right, you need to be able to get to it quickly and reliably.

If the shared neutral is lost ,won`t you be getting 400v across both cottages? 2 phase US style but double the Voltage.
