Hi guys, iv been asked to install 1 socket in a loft conversion and 1 light. This guy is doing the building work and told me the building inspector has asked for the electrical work to be signed off. Am i under any obligation to produce a cert? Im not altering or installing a new circuit so i cant see a reason for a part p cert. Im going to spur off the ring for the socket and take the light from the bedroom (last light on the circuit). Thanks

As far as im aware spurs are not notifiable as long as its not in a kitchen/bathroom. They dont class spurs as altering a circuit. Im just unsure as to wether a loft conversion introduces any different regs.

Well Part P of the regulations do not identify a loft conversion as a special location, and as your not installing a new circuit then you do not need to notify this. Unless of course there is going to be an ensuite with a bath/shower in it, then all work in there must be.

Regardless of notifiable or not you still need to issue a MEIWC for the alteration/addition to the existing circuit. If your using a schemes MEIWC then you may be able to issue one for the 2 circuits, if not then you need to issue one for each circuit
