loft lighting

Hi Guys, installing 2 x light points in large loft. Years ago I would of used 2 x fluorescent fittings suspended from beam using jack chain wrapped round said beam or besa sky hooks. Question is, would it still be sensible to use fluorescent fittings bearing in mind how cold lofts are nowadays, what with all the loft insulation now installed. I'm thinking of starting problems due to the cold. Any other / better fittings available?

Never had a problem with the cold when installing fluorescent fittings, used a lot whe I was in the USSR and that's blooming cold

just fix them to the timbers no problems with flurocents in lofts

Agreed, good lighting, otherwise batten holders.

Used to see fluos struggle yrs ago starting, and start to burn the end of the tubes out.

Agree with Farmer, nothing wrong with a fluorry in a loft, if it was used a lot then I would opt for an LED fitting, but in this case no issues, crack on fella.

Domestic loft lighting is usually used for only a few minutes at a time.

Since fluorescents take a while to reach full brightness from cold, I usually fit a few ordinary batten lampholders with 100W GLS lamps.

If you can use a fluorescent fitting outdoors it should be alright in a loft.
