been housebashing for the last 6 years or so and its all ive really ever done except the odd bit of industrial/commercial but i really want to get out there and try my hand at something else. Been thinkin along the lines of meter installations or Industrial work or even street lighting. There are loads of areas id like to get involved in but unable to get any of these jobs because ive no expeience in them. Its a catch 22 situation. I really dont wanna spend the next 40 odd years doing the same thing. I feel like im stuck in a rut. Can anybody offer any advice
thanks

pop ur cv on jobsite, but dont know if there is much work in glasgow, yes meter fitting jobs suck anyway,u get paid per meter. go las vegas work the hotels,my mate gets 80 dollars per hour

Theres not a lot happening in Glasgow at the moment at all, stick to what you know at the moment mate and see what happens over the next year or so, when hopefully it might pick up!!

Its quiet everywhere at the moment. As others say, stick with anything that pays the mortgage/rent until things pick up, if they ever do!

I started doing a bit of kitchen fitting (woodwork's my hobby) and that gives a bit of variation. Doesn't need much to get you started doing it, £200 gets basic router/jig to get you going, the rest you probably have already.

Scottish Power pay their fixers a salary, not by the meter. There's also a van to get to and from work, which is worth something. Salaries aren't top dollar, but it's steady job and can be enjoyable. With Smart metering coming up, it'll get a bit more interesting. It's worth considering.

do some agency work if your able to accept that it may be quiet from time to time, and you will move around from job to job.

Ive done a little house bashing and mostly industrial in the past, but the last 2 agency jobs ive had, and the one im starting on monday are shopfitting. I had no previous experience of it at all, apart from the power distribution at the mains. I think it will make me a more rounded electrician.

The suprising thing is that i didnt lie in my CV at all, i just told them that im confident to do anything electrical, and i had good references from my last 2 big jobs, (power station and water feaure/switchgear company)

Hope thgis helps mate.

PS. i live in kent so can travel into london, which helps enormously with agency work, may not be as easy if you live in a more rural area
