loop in method

need to fit an emergency light and a mains powered smoke in a rental property, but the lighting is in loop in, so there is no permanent live at the light. now i know i need to take a live from the switch up but this is on the stairs and the live is at the bottom of the stairs, so im in a spot of bother. any suggestions would be grateful, dont really fancy trunking all up the stairs

Any chance of taking a permanent feed from an upstairs switch in a bedroom?

correct me if im missing something but if its loop in system perm live would be at rose or do you mean looped in and out of switches if switches and assuming you can get in loft find mains to switch (any on that circuit) cut in jb job done, dont forget key test switch for em light

was thinking of stealing it from a bedroom werent sure if it was frowned upon or not, and yh its looped in and out of switches, pointless goin in loft the live is at the switch at bottom of stairs.

what he means is cut the cable in loft and add junction box, and come from this... but off bedroom light???

why would there be a permanent live in the loft, switches fed from floor below and switched live upto the loft, im i missing something, had the same problem but managed to get feed from fcu for bathroom fan

if the emer lite is to be fitted at top of stairs you need to come off upstairs circuit so if lights failed emer illuminates so in the loft above ANY switch 3 t&es and 2 of them perm feed cut cable add joint box come out again to key switch then to light

sorry just thought are you saying mains coming up to switch and sw and n from top if so tie on 3 core+e and pull up to loft

The only way i can see is find a perm live switch drop, cut him and use a ashley type JB and wagos and split it out.

what i mean is when i had this problem the switches where fed from underfloor board from switch to switch and the then from the switch up into the loft so no perm. live going upwards
