Discuss Low IR On N-E in the Periodic Inspection Reporting & Certification area at ElectriciansForums.net

O

optician

Tested a circuit today(ring) All other tests check out fine.
L-n greater than 200 mega ohms
L-E greater than 200 mega ohms
N-E 15.5 Mohms.
My Question is, could an Appliance eg washing machine, still plugged in but isolated,
cause such a reading?
Thanks.

15.5 Mohms isn't that low. What is the minimum IR reading allowed? If you haven't actually pulled the plug out then you are including the appliance in a N-E IR test.

agreed. unplug everything unless you have double pole socket outlets. even so, 15meg. is way above minimum allowed.

I know 15.5 is still ok (just lower than the other readings).
Access was tricky and could only just reach the switch.
I didn't realise machine would give a reading between N-E.
Will this damage the machine?

Thanks for the replies,
Given that 15.5 Mohms is not problem, would you put an explaination on the MWC(in this case) as to why you think it is low?

It passes the requirements and is not even close to investigation level so i would fill in the certificate normally with no further explanation. Also as you do not definitely know why it is lower than the others what would you put?
