hi all, i'm a sole trader, roofer and i'm currently in the process of forming a solar p.v. installation company in the midland's, my partner in my new venture is currently doing a "crash" course for his "part p" and 17th edition, now i know you guy's (genuine sparky's) don't approve with these short courses, so i'd like to say i understand the reason's !!! what i am looking for in the near future is an accredited m.c.s. sparky to join us in the short term to "help" guide us and in particular my partner, on our first few "install"s including our first one !!! now this may be a short term arrangement, or if enough work come's in longer !! we are having a qaulity website built at the moment, the company has been registered, so we are just waiting for my partner to complete his "training" then we'll be ready to start !!! if any of you are interested please send me a p.m. and i will contact you, thank you.

Hi Carp , I really think you will struggle to find a local MCS accredited spark to help you ( the competition get up and running ) , I think your best bet would be to cut a local spark in on the business then go for your mcs .

Doing a part P course and 17th edition will still leave massive gaps in the knowledge required to install Solar, it really is aimed at Electricians..........

Good luck

i heard that soon you will need to have a minumum of level 3 to be mcs registered, i could be wrong but thats what a friend told me

I think you should have all electrical quilifications to become mcs.

I did an install for a certain MCS Company based in Cheshire & NONE of them knew a thing about electrical work and all where basicly pen pushers .
No part P even ?????? HOW can they possibly be MCS solar power installers ?????

Loads of companies subby the work out coz they cant do it ???? CRAZY
hi mate, i can well understand your frustration !!! i've had it in the roofing game for year's ! which is why i've decided to try and get in a new and growing trade i'e solar p.v. !! we are trying to go about thing's as best we can my partner's course has cost @ÂŁ5k, we've both attended course's at ecoskies and are booked in for a couple more, we fully intend to take onboard any help which we've been offered and we don't intend to go it "alone" until we feel completely conversant and comfortable, and then only if we have'nt enough work to justify employing anybody else which hopefully won't be the case !!!
