Hello,

I have an important question regarding those ripoff MAF/IAT resistor mods.

Long story short I bought into one without much research, idiotically, and installed it about two weeks ago. I put about 100 miles on the car, 2013 mazdaspeed 3, before I realized the acceleration was a little slower, fuel economy was worse, and when I got into the acceleration it would give out a little bit and pick back up and repeat.

Well I decided to cut it out since it came with suitcase connectors and I couldn't just disconnect it. My acceleration still doesn't seem like it did when I got the car but it does seem better. I have ran it about 120 miles since I have uninstalled the mod.

My questions are these:

1. Will my car ever go back to feeling as smooth as it did when I first bought it a month and a half ago?

2. The suitcase connectors are still attached to the wiring that is attached to the connector that plugs into the IAT. Will this void my warranty if a Mazda repair shop opens up the hood?

3. If so, is there anyway I can replace that wiring and harness or would it be a very expensive thing for a shop to do?

4. Does it sound like any permanent damage is done?

Please help, I have been searching for answers for my questions and just can't seem to find the answers I am looking for.

These resistors are a very crude way of telling the ecu its colder out there than it really is. This tells the engine to give more fuel. The thinking is that it will tip the engine from maximum economy to maximum power by altering the air/fuel mix. No surprise economy was worse as that's the whole idea but if it ran like a dog then its possible it was just plain wrong. You may find the ECU has abandoned the MAF/IAT readings and gone on its own internal "safe" settings. Its possible that if you disconnect the battery and leave it for 1/2 hour then re-connect, the ECU may start to look at the MAF again for plausible readings. Good Luck P&S

plugsandsparks,

Thank you for the hasty reply and helpful information. I will try the battery disconnect later on today. Again, I appreciate it.
