Hi guys

New to the forum, been reading posts the last few days and everyone seems to be helpful and friendly here so I was hoping someone could answer my question.

Have installed a main bonding conductor from the water pipe to the MET. The Length of the main bonding is approx. 7m.

When doing my continuity test my readings where coming up 0.06 which I know is over the expected limit of 0.05.
Is there anything I can do to reduce this to under the 0.05 mark?

PS it is a TNCS supply showing 0.13 Ze RCD protected and supplementary bonding in place to, the main bonding is 10mm.

Thanks for your time

Hi Simon,

I think on yout TNCS supply, Ze of 0.13, RCD protection and 10mm sup bonding in place, I'd be tempted not to worry about the 0.01 ohm!

Hi Ponty

Thanks for the quick reply. I didn't think it was much to worry about as I installed it fresh yesterday, clipped direct under coving and it doesn't change anything in regards to complying with BS7671.

Unless the cable is oxidised or you have made a poor connection, the meter you are using is giving a false value for whatever reason, nits not nulled or poor crocodile clips or such

The accuracy you are working with is alien to my standards unfortunately

If you can inspect both ends of the cable, and inspect it along it's whole run, then you can verify it's continuity without the use of a low-ohmeter anyways.

Also on both the EIC and the MEIWC it asks just for verification which is a tick and not a value so the under a 0.05 value is something that is "expected" not necessarily got.

All sorts of factors come into play from length of conductor to how good the grade of the cable is, and as our meters are not designed to read absolute accuracy ie 0.01 ohms your meter may read 0.06 mine may read 0.04.

Could though always run a bit of 16mm;):D;)

Indeed it would be. But that would mean having 2 things to disconnect instead of one. More margin for error. Of course, any diligent spark would...
