Hi guys. I know this is an old question but after reading previous threads there still seems to be a lot of disagreement on the issue. I need to replace the CU in my mum's house but need to sort out the main bonding first, (there is none!!). The water is not a problem as it enters the property in the kitchen where the CU is, but some 15 or so years ago the gas board moved the meter the the front wall of the house with the supply entering under the living room floor & coming up at the original meter position in the kitchen. To reach the new meter will require taking up the floorboards in 2 bedrooms, the landing & a passageway!! The old meter was positioned directly beneath the CU & although it has been blocked by a fitted cupboard it is possible to make it accessible although it would be outside the 600mm range stated in the Regs. Any views or thoughts would be appreciated.

As long as you bond as close as possible to the point of entry to the property, then its fine.

It doesnt matter if there is a long run under the floor before this "point of entry" providing there is no branch off pipes..

Hi guys. although it would be outside the 600mm range stated in the Regs. .

Try not to get too concerned with the location of the gas meter

To echo Jasons post, the bonding (before any branches) as near as practical to the point of entry,in your case that seems to be the kitchen

Gas type people may tell you its supposed to be at the meter
It may or it may not,it all depends on where the accessable point of entry is located

Just make sure you write on the certificate where you have bonded it , that way you are making it clear to future inspection, because most people will open the gas cupboard and not see it , and fail it

Did the very same this morning on a converted house!! Felt a right **** when the maintenance man showed me the bonding and yes, it was on the cert!:eek::eek:
