Hi guys quick question, Im doing a PIR and i cannot verify Bonding to the incoming services, gas is boxed in and water is behind a built in washing machine which im unable to move without taking the unit apart and removing the washer. As it is for a possible buyer of the property the current owners do not want me to start pulling things apart in their house. I can see the bonding at the board but i cannot test it or see it. Do i put this down as a limitation or do i fail the report?

Do a flying lead test,if you cant reach the connection only other way is to test where you can find cold water pipe local to the meter and also with the gas, under 0.05 ohms is ok,and i would just note on the cert, exactly where you tested it.

I probably could but i cannot get anywhere near the bond and the incoming water, and i have know idea if all the pipes are connected in metallic piping i may get misleading readings, could i do that? also dont i have to visually see the connection?

So if i test both at another point, and its ok do i just put down the visual connection of bonding as a limitation?

Exactly, your doing a pir,its not intended to rip a place to bits to find these things, you could put it down as a limitation, also note it down as requires further investigation, test it where you can, take readings,as long as you have recorded what and how and where you have tested the bonding and the reasons why you cant see the connections ie boxed in,you have done all that you can,the client as you said does not want wash mach taken out, this is where the limitations come into play, you can only do what is requested at the time.

Hi Sonobit
Sorry for the delay but there is some great stuff on inspection & testing and bonding at online learning website for electricians. It'll also be very useful for the amendment 1 updates. A year's subs will cost about the same as a couple of books. More info and a discount from this link- Electrical Online Training for Electricians. Good luck.

Indeed it would be. But that would mean having 2 things to disconnect instead of one. More margin for error. Of course, any diligent spark would...

Although the gas pipe may no longer require the bonding, it should really be terminated correctly or completely disconnected at the other end...
