Hi all, any ideas as to why this installation has an isolator next to the main switch? To my inexperienced eyes, this seems unecessary waste of real estate.

Sorry. User stupidity! Domestic board. Hope it works this time. I can preview it fine!

Here's a close up. I need to free up space on this Wylex at some point for a couple of new circuits, so am doing 'preliminary enquiries' :icon10:

I too think that it was once a dual RCD board and either due to a faulty RCD or a fault that couldn't be found the "spark" has replace it with a main switch. I would test the circuits then fit an RCD back into the board

Seems to be the case which explains my other problem on my other thread where I'm having an earth fault. If there was an RCD in place on the board, the sockets in my kitchen (next to isolator on board) would keep on tripping.
