Hi,
I am about to install mains track lighting in a room, replacing the low voltage system currently in place.
I am not experienced with track lighting, and am wondering if I it would be good practice to RCD protect the circuit?
If it were a like for like replacement of a mains light I would not be concerned, but does the track lighting mean there is an IP issue with mains voltage conductors being directly accessible (although out of reach)?

Regards

You are just changing the light fitting itself if you are running any new wiring then the new wiring must comply to the 17th and would only be subject to requiring rcd protection if you have buried it <50mm without suitable mechanical protection.

No New wiring. Converting from low voltage to 230V because to access the current transformer requires removing the carpets and floorboards in upstairs rooms with major disruption. With mains track, there will be no more disruption upstairs, even if they change the fitting.
