a customer has some undercupboard lights (12) and they are all cracking and won't hold a bulb anymore (those small screw in ones) so they want new ones. customer doesn't want 12v as there would need to be about 8 transformers as no JB's are accessible so must be mains voltage and switched

I know some company somewhere must be making these , but for the life of me i can't find any. neither can 2 wholesalers i tried! i have 2 inch to play with so surely there must be something suitable

so can anybody help me out?

There are loads of different kinds of 230v under-cupboard light available.
What kind are you looking for? Kitchen? Bathroom? Pelmet? Round? Long? Angled?
Worse comes to the worst you could use ropelight. (That also comes in 230v, in numerous colours).

trouble is it's gonna work out too expensive with transformers, i would need 8 transformers and 12 lights!

ideally i think they want 12 switched bulb holders (smaller than standard ones) and 12 20w bulbs, should cost about £30 in parts

I'd try to steer them away from a like for like replacement and go for something low energy instead such as GX53s or strip lights.
Tungsten filament pigmys seem a bit old fashioned now.

I'd tell them to get with the 21st century. There must be a lighting pelmet to hide these so I'd use florescent link and light. I use the Eterna ones from Denmans and although I usually have Eterna gear they seem ok. I've been ftting them for more than 6 years and never had a faulty fitting. It would be even better if you could fit a 16mm box and switch in under the pelmet to switch all of them with one switch to save fiddling aabout finding the built in switches. They plug into each other or with link leads, but more often than not I take multiple fittings back to one JB or switch, maybe with a bit of SA1 screwed up to keep it all neat. It'll cost alot more than £30 though, a 20watt (the biggest) will retail to the customer at about £20 inc VAT.
