Can someone please clarify something for me? Is maintained live the permanent live?
And does it matter which you use in 3 core, Brown or Black (Brown sleeve).

Cheers all.:D

Thanks for the reply. I only ask because I am trying to copy someone elses work (who is no longer on the job), to keep it all the same through out. They have used Black (Brown sleeve) in maintained live. Now I am wiring for emergency lights and want to ensure I wire them the same. Brown = Permenent live, Black (Brown sleeve) = switch live ?

I assume this is an em fitting? maintained is a permanent live to the lamp which should be linked with the battery terminal If you want it on all the time. if it only needs to come on under fault conditions just the battery terminal needs connecting.and so long as the cores are marked as phases it doesn't matter what colour you use.
