hi guys,

Exit lights which have running men on them which are maintained how do you wire them??

perm live from the out going em test which, which i know is right. for maintained and non maintained.

but for maintained which one 1or 2

1. a switch wire of local lighting circuit so the exit light switch off when u switch the lights off but still charges. and lights up again when u put the lights on.

2. a perm live to it so its always lit up until power failure

In a public place the EM should be on all the time, but if they dont, then the switch wire turns them off with the rest, however, because there is also a perm live, it will then light up when the power fails, whatever the position of the switch.

If its in a flat for instance, then they come on when the power fails.(normally, depends on the designer etc).

NM - Works on power failure only.
M - Works all the time or with switch.

A light fitting that has a normal use lamp in it with another lamp in the fitting that is only used in event of a mains failure - ie a normal light with a non maintained light built in to it.
