you obviously don't have trackers on your vans!!

also, what happens when you have to deliver a large hawaiian to the gaffer's house? . maybe park quarter of a mile away and hoof it?

No trackers thank god plus the gaffer lives about 30 miles away. :)

I make a bit of money on the side from ebay, i got top rated seller and powerseller status a few months back :) It is VERY hard to find a niche on ebay now thats not already flooded with other people selling the same products but it is possible. It can be a pain going to the post office all the time and dealing with customers but the extra cash makes up for it!

Have a browse on alibaba.com, theres tons of Chinese manufacturers on there - just make sure you buy from one with good feedback as theres a lot of scammers also. A good way to get a unique product is to make your own brand of goods, they can help you with that.

Wow! This sounds incredible, scaring the hell out of pigeons with a bad --- falcon then rocking out with your band afterwards - and getting paid for it! Sweeeet.

I have been lookin at the Alibaba page for about 10 years now......lots of tools and things on there, also there's made in china dot com and a few others...

Yep, I've personally only used Alibaba but made in china is probably just as good. You can get some good deals on ali express if you dont want to bulk buy also.

Another alternative to ebay would be to get a stool at market, if you could be bothered you could make quite of bit of cash and there would be a lot less competition. Im too lazy for that though :)
Ive thought about importing tools but the shipping costs are astronomical from china, unless you stuck to lightweight stuff like insulated screwdrivers etc. Things like spanners and hammers would be uneconomical to import unless you could get a very good purchase price. Don't forget to price in import taxes also.

I can get a chinese company to ship a pallet to Liverpool for ÂŁ40.00 but if I want to get it to Glasgow from there the UK parcel company were asking ÂŁ700+ VAT so I would have to go there with a van and get it myself.....ok if you live near a shipping port...the chinese container ships are priced on running costs +modest profit, the UK ones are priced on how many super yachts the shareholders can buy each year....if I ask a UK company to pick up in China and ship here they will say "sure that's ÂŁ3650.55 +the VAT per pallet for port to port then ÂŁ300 to do your customs+ VAT +scratch your head charge + VAT again...then the customs will add that to what they see the value as and add duty and tax to that again +VAT...
If I get a chocolate Bar imported and it costs me ÂŁ200 to get ripped off(by a jobsworth European shipping company or one of the big 4) on shipping (if I lost my marbles) then the customs would add about ÂŁ150 in tax and wouldn't bat an eyelid....as they would say that the chocolate bar is worth ÂŁ200.....here in the UK it is better to do business with small British companies or overseas companies or you get taken for a mug and shafted so bad they make a DVD......why do you think a tablet computer costs ÂŁ150 more here than in France.....or a music player (not mentioning any names) that costs ÂŁ95 more than in France...Britain paved with gold for big multinationals.....that's why the p@rclf*rce costs so much......about ÂŁ60 to send a jar of jam from one side of the UK to another and you can wait 3 weeks for it because they can't be @rsd...

If you go VAT registered and get a good financial advisor/accountant to keep the taxes in order so you don't get screwed by over taxing then you can make a modest living, if you find a good new product then you can make a good living from importing and selling...

You're absolutely right about the shipping costs. I enquired about getting some sound deadening material shipped over and i think it was about $400 from china to southampton and then ÂŁ750 from southampton to kent! This is for one full pallet by the way. I decided to leave it in the end as I didn't know much about importing at the time and didn't feel confident to go and collect it myself. You get charged import tax on the shipping costs also which I thinks a **** take!

Not hands on sparkying but i am building a test rig and will be doing some bespoke 1 to 1 training for prep for 2394 and 2395 practicals, in the new year. No i am not trying to advertise, just responding to a post.

Cheers...........Howard

Not really, its just some if us would rather be making a bit of extra cash on the side in our spare time rather then bumming around watching emmerdale. Also I don't get overtime in my job hence why I do my own bits.

Share dealing... Medium term, keep away from spread betting.

You can make money, learn a lot about world economics and more... Rather interesting.

Note... Don't go in blind, you can certainly lose money also.

Try a fake money account 1st.

I drive an R reg citroen berlingo... If you read the first post, you'd realise im not talking about free cash, just making afew quid on the side doing something worth getting paid for.

Plus, its not greedy to want to make afew quid, especially at the moment when people are struggling to pay the essential bills.

Some great replies here!

i make slate coasters / place-mats / cheese boards/ trays etc out off flooring slate and clocks / decorative items out of natural roof slates, most of the materials salvaged / reclaimed - just takes a bit of time and effort when having a quiet moment and minimal new bits and pieces ( rubber feet, clock mech's etc), sell mainly on face-book and local craft fairs, not making a fortune but every little helps and
