PMF180 gave up the ghost today. Was initially thinking about replacing with the blue version 110v, but I see Toolstation do a very similar Makita for about the same money.

Has anyone experience of the Makita, better or worse than the Bosch?

Alternatively, are Fein worth the extra money?

Fein can takes all sorts of abuse.... had mine going 3 years strong now and never misses a beat.

Brilliant bit of kit, gotta be in my top 5 tools. Got Makita everything else though, but Fein is the one if you want a serious multi cutter.

All the best,

Sy

i have the makita one, battery lasts long enough and it has just the same power as the fein 240v one i had previously. only downside is you need an allen key to swap blades but the fein has quick release. a cordless one is good enough for electricians if you ask me,99% of the time i only use mine for 2 minutes at a time and the job is done. and if you already have makita batteries and charger then go for it

What they used for chopping out boxes?? Any good for red brick or just good on plaster and breeze block??

most of the time i use it for notching out joists, stud, any timber etc,
lifting floorboards as you can cut right into corners
fitting dry lining boxes into plasterboard/ lat n plaster walls
cutting general inspection holes in plasterboard
cutting entries into CU's or plastic backboxes
cutting PVC trunking/conduit to length
cutting into plaster when chasing (use a blunt blade, even blades with no teeth go through plaster)
removing grout to remove single tiles

it won't go through brick, unless you buy a diamond tipped blade and even then i doubt it would be up to much
