A man has died after being electrocuted while in tunnels underneath an abandoned mental hospital.

Devon and Cornwall Police are understood to be looking into whether the 40-year-old was attempting to steal copper pipes from the site of the former St Lawrence's Hospital site in Bodmin, Cornwall.

The site is also popular with ''urban explorers'', people who gain entry, often through breaking in, to industrial and other buildings - most often disused structures - for the thrill of exploring empty spaces

The man, who has not been identified, was in the tunnels with another man, aged in his 30s, when the accident occurred at around 2.20pm on Easter Monday, April 25.

Wonder if his family will be able to sue the health board for failing in their duty of care and "Allowing him to break in" while not isolating the electrical supply

One of the guys with firm I work for went to power up and test a small outhouse fed from a factory unit owned by a big client I wish he had pased photos to me The factory main panel Think industrial unit feeding 10 smaller DBs around 15mtr long by 2.5 mtr completly stripped right back to the load side of mains incommer all swas stripped remote Dbs stripped conduit stripped they had left tools and makeshift stripping table Alll in all quick reconing loads of moneys worth of work to replace
If they are caught they will probably get 100hrs community service

stopped for a wee wee in a convenient place the othewr day somewhere in the sticks, while I was "weeing" I noticed a huge roll (I mean hundreds of metres) of what looked like 25mm2 earthing cable - but just the insulation.

Some robbers I reckon.

Sounds like a cool place to take a look around though, might be worth taking some rubber boots and strapping a volt stick to the toe caps mind!

My local Church had its lead roof lining stolen recently...there obviously isnt a line these "theiving bassers" arent prepared to cross. Maybe this chap was involved in the church robbery and was struck by the proverbial lighting bolt of god...

Can we just be clear that urban explorers are not thieves. Just because we may have been in the same derelict place does not make us thieves. Infact most of us detest thieves/pickeys as they destroy the heritage we enjoy.
