Hi all,

I was just wondering if anyone was aware of any management/ supervisory courses available? Obviously it would need to be geared towards electrical contracting not just a generic one. I know ECA do one which looks good, however its only open to members.. Ive had a look on google which didn't come up with much so was wondering if any one on here knew of any. :)

if you're wanting to get into management, i'd suggest looking into higher education. along the lines of hnd or beng. a lot of the jobs you'll see advertised are looking for these qualifications + experience. not sure how you get the experience though, but that's the merry-go-round we find ourselves on.

you can become a qualified supervisor (albeit with the nic) by completing the inspection and testing qualification.

I am planning to do the test and inspect course but just read they've done away with the 2391 and replaced it with 2394 + 2395. And surprise surprise its about 400 quid dearer. Will still be taking it next year though hopefully.

I would love to do an HND its just I cant afford the time off work to do it. Even I could I doubt my current employer would allow it.

a few of the lads on here are doing it via 'distance learning' thru' teesside university. no time spent in a classroom - simply up to the student to get his head down and get it learnt. complete the modules at home and send them off to be marked.

even doing it in your own time, it's probably a hell of a task. but it's a good option if you can't spare any time during the week.

After further research the c&g level 4 higher Professional diploma looks interesting and has a lot of managerial based modules such as estimating, planning work and financial management. Also counts as an hnc if you wanted to do and hnd afterwards. If i can persuade my new boss to let me do day release i will probably go for this. Need to get test and inspect done first though!
