Evening everyone.
I went to a job where the guy wants to split the property into flats/ bedsits.

The property is in the oldest part of Norwich.
The supply has had many alterations etc but remains as 1960's. I advised a rewire with each bed sit having their own consumer unit and meter (so he can charge) communal kitchen and landings on their own circuits and meter.

Am I right in saying he would require emergency lighting on the communal areas and smokes?

Also in my opinion with the age of the property and necessary need to cutting circuits up it'd be easier to just rewire with the minimal amount of power points and lighting.

Having one main consumer unit feeding smaller sub mains is the option I have recommended does this sound right?

Just looking to find if what I have suggested is a good option? As to be honest I've never had a project of this size where I have been the 'main' person.
Also how would I found out about if it is a listed building?

Thanks!

Should be able to find the listing here. http://list.english-heritage.org.uk/ or local council

Common areas have to have lighting and smoke, set up of boards is ok

I did a few listed buildings in central London and it was a right ball ache getting all the consents/permissions if you can get someone else to put their name to the project do that otherwise you'll spend way too much time on non electrical stuff, unless the client is willing to pay you for it
