It's been along time since I had nightmare of a day like today, family member asks me to change some sockets and light switches to Crome type so avoid these sockets were the face plate is a push on type from bq no don't shoot me down they were £9 each not cheap but a nightmare to fit as the face plate that should just clip on is not easy. But the day got worse no length in single socket box to terminate pushes socket back and wow and behold ji nick a cable or so I think there is now smoke coming from the Wylex consumer my question is why why hasn't this just blown the fuse. Takes cover of Wylex board makes sure everything is tight which it is re fix socket were cable trapped all ok replace fuses and sit around to make sure all ok. No I haven't tested anything my mft is in work .sorry it's long winded why the smoke ???????? Your thoughts please

Yes lee 3036. Got me baffled I got bit worried couldn't understand what would smoke I've only changed 10 items re inspected all there all ok all fuses back in been in over 3 hours all working ok

You sure it was fuse wire in the holder?

What do you mean by that lee there was one that had blew but strangely it wasn't the circuit in question it was the fuse to the cooker

Yes Walsh I agree I've recommended upgrading consumer wiring looks ok all twin and earth didn't think I needed to bring my mft was only changing face plates

Actually lee take that back could well of been the circuit in question and probably was only just got back before must of got the 32 amp mixed up on the floor when I took them all out to check for loose connections in db

I've seen all manner of things used, come across one the other day where some strands out of flex had been used as the customer didn't have any fuse wire. Also a few weeks ago come across a bs1361 fuse wrapped in foil and shoved back in the carrier lol

How do you know this if you couldn't carry out any testing?

No nothing like that lee in any of them all looked ok as I said there was one that had blown were I caught the cable but why the smoke why didn't it just take fuse wire out

maybe that old wylex board has not seen all the government ads....... the ones that tell you that smoking clogs your arteries, makes you impotent, gives you cancer, ect., etc. or perhaps it's telling you that it's not happy as it's not made of steel.

Dibb all I've done is change some socket faces checked all with plug in tester why the need to carry out ir testing surely most sparks on here don't retest if you change like for like faces

Steel ones are still allowed to smoke, just not combust [emoji2]
