Marine Electricians?

For some time now ive always fancied working on boats/ships. I think its something to do with the travelling and the sea, I love the pair of them.

is there such things as marine electricians? Working on boats at sea, maintenance/on call boys if anything goes wrong etc? I'd fancy a bit of that if possible. Is it hard to get on? What quals/experience do they need etc.

Marine electrical is a nice niche market to get into. I don't know about the setup in the UK but you should post this question in the courses and NVQ's section.

Have you thought of joining the navy floody? i know 2 lads that spent 4 years in their working on communications and after they came out they started with a company on 45k and a company Audi. if they weren't so hard i would have beaten them to death in a jealous rage. luckily i dont have a wife or dog.
