Maximum length for BT

Hello,

We have had a log cabin for my better half to run her company from. All wired ect, but she now needs a BT point for a Card machine.

As the crow flys it's about 35 - 40 meters from the master, which is the only point in the property.

Is there a maximum distance specified by BT after the master? I live about 30 yards from our exchance if its of relevance?

can't see a problem there, except for protecting the cable outside from rodents, gardeners, etc.

well it's over head, and then across our yard under ground. luckly I put in two 4" ducts before it was finished, so should be fine. One for power and one spare.

Not sure on the max distance but it's much further than 30-40 meters. You might need to use an outlet point with lightning protection if it's cabled externally...again not too sure of your local regs I'm afraid.

Run a length of Cat5 external grade out there, and terminate it into your existing linebox. Easy peasy

iv'e used belden cable before now, if iv'e had no telecom 3 pair on the van

I use cat5e too. Apparently it exceeds BT spec, but this isnt confirmed. It works fine though.

I've always installed Cat5 for my clients, and pointed the BT Engineers at the couple of Cat5's next to their DP and the other Cat5's dotted round where we've wanted them to end up

BT Engineers love me as a consequence, especially when I'll happily sign to say that they've left slightly earlier than their allotted time, despite them having been done in a fraction of it! That and the free coffee...
